The past two nights we have been out on the town, running back and forth between bike shops, trying to make our final decision on what bikes to buy!
The first night we were out for quite a few hours, so turned we it into a mini date night by getting some dinner at Five Guys. Hmmmm. You can't go wrong with Five Guys!
We are super excited to buy bikes and have been saving our money for a while now. We are even selling Trav's car this week (if all goes well at the mechanics with the hopeful buyer tomorrow) and are ready and excited to be a one car family! We have so many friends who are and have been a one car family in so many different situations and it just seems right to us. Having two cars right now seems like such a luxury, not a need. Some people think we are crazy for doing it, others are cheering us on. But most importantly, it truly feels like the right thing for us right now.
Over the past month we've been to every bike shop in town (some more than once), done our research on the internet, talked to friends and family, and discussed it with each other. We've got the money and are ready to make the big purchase but are totally stuck . . . we can't decide which bike to get!
This is the bike we both fell in love with a month ago when we first started our search . . .
The Specialized Ariel/Crosstrail. It is a cross-terrain bike with 700 cm tires and seems to be the perfect fit for our needs. It's super comfy, pretty, rides so nice, and we both just love it. BUT, it's a little more than we were hoping to spend. We went back to take another look at it last night and to get more info, and we're still in love. If not more.
Then there is this bike . . .
The Jamis Citizen II. Also a cross-terrain with 700 cm tires. It's bit more of a comfort/leisure bike than the Specialized Ariel and a bit cheaper. If we bought this bike, we would save about $240 total.
$240 . . . how significant is $240? Some days it seems like A LOT, others not really. We want these bikes to last us several years, so we want to do it right. But, we really don't want to buy more than we need.
Somedays, I wish money grew on trees.

even though some people call them "special-ed," you know my vote:)
I say get the bike you LOVE!! Especially if that is going to be one of your main ways of transport since you will only have one car. (Unless it is like thousands of dollars more than the other...then maybe scale back that love!!)
When it comes to bikes, I say spend more. But then you know I'm kind of bike crazy. Something to really consider is which bike shop feels the best and has the best warranty, service, and support.
