. . . in Mazatlan!
Matazlan was our least favorite stop of the three, but we still had a great time. The port the ship pulled into was a shipping yard and it wasn't the most glamorous part of town. Although, I will say it was kind of fun being dropped off in that part of town because we were able to see what Mexico was really like . . . not just the dolled up, tourist version. Once again, instead of paying a taxi $20, we hopped on a bus for $0.55 that took us all the way into town. As we traveled from the port to the more touristy areas, Trav and I felt very grateful for our many temporal blessings, our jobs, and the apartment we have to live in . . . which we were positive would seem like a mansion to most of the locals.
From the port we took a bus into town to what they call the Golden District. It's basically a row of shops along the beach where they are all selling the same 4 things. We browsed, but didn't buy anything. Actually, we didn't buy any kinds of souvenirs the entire week! There just wasn't anything among all of it that really wanted. So, we bought $1 tacos instead :)
After wandering around town for an hour or two, we were hot, hot, HOT. So just like we did at Puerta Vallarta, we found ourselves a nice little resort just off of the beach and parked ourselves there for a couple of hours. We basked in the ridiculously hot sun and read our books, shared a virgin pina colada, swam in the pool, chatted, and just enjoyed being there together. I can't begin to count the times we told each other how nice it was and how much we loved the time relaxing and just being together.
There is something about this picture of Travis that I just love. Maybe it's the scruff. It gets me every time!
After the resort, we headed back into town and walked a long, long way on the boardwalk. The picture above is the view of downtown Matazlan from the boardwalk.
Once we decided we were ready to head back to the ship, we were trying to catch the bus back. After walking quite a ways further and the right bus not coming along, we decided to pay a couple extra bucks and take a little golf cart taxi (that were ALL over the city) to the ship. I'm glad we did . . . it was breezy, our driver was so nice, he played good music (Hannah Montana and Black Eyed Peas) and we got to see the insides of the city a little better. We even saw some LDS missionaries walking along the side of the road . . . which always make my little heart skip a beat.
Stay tuned for the day 6 in Cabo San Lucas. Hands down our favorite stop!
